“Inside of you there are two voices battling for control over your choices. One is battling for your heart’s truest desires, the other battles for empty temptation craved only in a fleeting moment.
Meet the hero and the dragon.
The hero pushes you towards your most treasured goals, while the dragon protects said treasures from your grasp by leading you further and further away from them.
The Hero whispers, “I should go for a run,” “I should take care of this task right now,” or “I need to address this tension in my relationship.”
Everytime this voice speaks to you, imagine that your glittering future has invited you to join a Mini Quest.
The dragon, however, invites you to join some diversional quests of their own. Perhaps an invitation to eat ice cream for breakfast? Press snooze? Or how about just avoiding doing anything difficult altogether?
You’ll know when the quest is an invitation from your inner hero by how fervently you desire to tuck the quest away for later. But take heart, the hero within wishes to challenge you only because he/she knows that any reward worth having first requires a challenge!
Each time you complete a hero quest, you get closer to the life you yearn to live. The quests vary in difficulty. Some quests you will resist highly, but most fortunately, these quests yield the highest rewards!
Our focus this week will be on completing our personal hero quests!
Your gamework for today is to… set an intention to listen to your heroic self and to embrace the challenging nature of their requests!
I’ll see you again tomorrow for our first mini quest!
Mini Quests
"Please return daily for this week's gamework!"
Quest Invitations
"Today, observe any quest invitations that spring up in your mind. Which ones do you generally listen to? The hero or the dragon?"
Note what you observe in your quest diary.
Identification
“Today, let’s take an honest look at who is sending us these requests.
What does your hero look like? Who are they? Are they similar to a character from a movie, book, or person irl? What are some of their traits? Where does the path of your hero lead you?
What does your dragon look like? Is it a villain or just lazy? Does it remind you of a fictional character or even a relative? What are some of their traits? Where does the path of your dragon lead you?”
Note your findings in your quest diary.
Challenge Accepted
“Let’s try listening to our hero today!
Accept at least 1 of the hero’s requests and act upon it immediately!
Document any quests you accept in your diary and assign a difficulty rating.
Good luck!”
The Battle Begins
“Today, let’s not only listen to our hero, but also decline the dragon’s requests!
Accept 2 Hero Quests, and decline 2 Diversion Quests from the dragon.”
Go Big
“Today, let’s amp up the difficulty!
Accept a high level difficulty quest invitation from your heroic self! (this will probably be something you’ve been putting off for a while)
Note the quest in your diary along with how you felt after finally listening to your inner hero.
Feel free to continue accepting quests from the hero and slaying your dragon in the weeks to come! See you on Sunday for your next major quest!"
